dhb’s ‘Scrap’ Kit

Lets be honest - cycling is pretty environmentally friendly. Bikes don’t produce Co2 emissions. The more people ride bikes, the less motor vehicles on the road. But now cycling brands are making moves to do even more in the pursuit of becoming more sustainable.

British brand - dhb Sport made a move to using recycled packaging a couple of years ago. Their kit comes in packaging that’s made from 70% recycled materials, and is 100% recyclable. The company has also seen to print recommendations on the packaging for repeat use.

I have been privileged to work with dhb Sport as a brand ambassador for the last few years and wear the high performance kit they produce for cyclists. The most recent addition to their portfolio is the new Aeron 2.0 range - in both men and women specific kits. The new Aeron 2.0 jersey has been completely redesigned from the predecessor. The collar has been made smaller and the overall fit has been changed to improve the comfort in the riding position. The sleeves no longer feature a cuff around the arms. Instead the jersey sleeves are a ‘set-in’ single piece of fabric, with laser cut openings. I really like this new style sleeve as it provides good coverage without restriction. But some riders may find the sleeve fit is loose when compared to the previous Aeron jersey. The side panels are large mesh inserts for improved breathability. The biggest overhaul of the new Aeron 2.0 jersey is the fact it has been constructed from recycled fabric (80% in the main body and 88% in the inserts). The fabric itself has an ‘anti-bacterial treatment’ to help keep the jersey fresh.

Like the new Aeron jersey, the Aeron 2.0 shorts are partly made from recycling fabric. The main body (legs) of the shorts are made from 65% regenerated Nylon, with 35% Elastane, whilst the mesh panel band bonded edges and is made from a blend of Polyester, Elastane and Carbon. The Aeron 2.0 shorts do continue to use the Elastic Interface Paris HP Men and Women specific chamois pad.

The result is a fantastic! The main fabric has a much softer feel to it than the pervious Aeron bibs. This, combined with a good balance between stretch and support makes the shorts incredibly comfortable. The shorts have a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating of 50 on the black shorts (40 on other colours). Like the jersey - there is no longer a separate ‘cuff’ around the legs. Instead the laser-cut finish has a silicon gripper is printed on the inside of the leg. The chamois pad is as comfortable as it ever was and provides a quality seating platform across disciplines and terrains.
