As the temperature drops, thoughts move to keeping warm on the bike. Gloves switch from being 'mitts' to full finger gloves. The dhb Windslam Stretch Cycling Gloves have been designed specifically for riding in cool, windy conditions. So we thought we'd give them a test.
The Technology
The dhb Windslam Stretch cycling gloves are very lightweight and made from a blend of Polyester, Nylon and Spandex. There are incredibly stretchy and flexible, giving riders plenty of unrestricted movement. The inside of the gloves has a soft fleece lining for additional comfort and warmth.
The back panel and fingers of the gloves feature a windproof (Windslam) fabric to help insulate and deflect the wind. The cuff is a good length and loose fitting to sit comfortably around the wrist. The glove's palm feature a silicone print pattern which covers the whole of the palms surface. Designed to give better grip in varying conditions.
In Use
The dhb Windslam Stretch cycling gloves are very lightweight and have a liner glove feel about them. I found the fabric to be very comfortable thanks to its stretch construction, fleece lining and flat seams. When it comes to the fit, dhb's current range of gloves are unisex and sizes ranging from XS (18.5cm) - XXL (23.5cm). I have been testing the XXL gloves based on the size guide on Wiggle's website, but actually found this size a bit on the big side. On the bike the gloves remain very comfortable and their stretchable nature allows fingers full movement. However, I did find that the loose cuffs seemed to have a mind of their own. One side continuously fell out from under my jersey sleeve. This could partly be related to the sizing issue and was more of a niggle that a criticism.When it comes to windproofing, the back panel of the gloves work well. I tested the gloves in various conditions and on blustery rides they stood up to the test. The gloves are nice an breathable so they regulate temperature well. Although they did struggle to keep my hands warm in very cold conditions. But in fairness to dhb, these are not a full winter glove.
I have always been comfortable in the fact that dhb like to add reflective detail to their clothing. Despite the dhb Windslam Stretch Cycling gloves only being available in black, there are subtle but visible reflective logos place on the back hand. The silicone print pattern is a thin covering and unusually covers the whole of the palm area. This is often more strategically placed across the thumb, first and middle fingers and the centre of the palm. However, the thickness and the pattern design work well in keeping your hands gripped to the bars - in any position.

dhb continue to produce good quality garments at a good price. The dhb Windslam Stretch Cycling Gloves are comfortable and providing you can get the fit correct - feel good on. They are lightweight which makes them a winner for riders who don't like wearing bulky items. Despite their thin construction, I was impressed at how well they block the wind. But if you are looking for a winter glove, these are not really it. The gloves are suited for riding in cool conditions rather than cold - unless you wear a second pair underneath. Personally I prefer an elasticated cuff but I can see the appeal as these gloves are easy to get on and off whilst riding. At just £16.00 exclusively from Wiggle, the dhb Windslam Stretch Cycling Gloves are well worth the money.
