FWE 80 Lumen LED Front Light Review

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]FWE is the in-house brand of Evans Cycles. The product portfolio consists of everything from cycle clothing to accessories. With an extensive range of bike lights available, I have been riding with the ultra-compact FWE 80 Lumen LED Front light.

The Technology

The super tiny FWE front light weighs a minuscule 51 grams and measures just 50 milometers in length. It has two white LEDs which have 4 modes with the respective run times  - super bright 1.5hrs / boost 3hrs / constant 6hrs / flash 12hrs. The power is emitted from a small rechargeable Li-Lon battery.FWE 80 Lumen LED front lightThe light comes with a rubber band handlebar mount that will fit most diameters. There is also a 30cm Velcro helmet mount for those wanting to use the light for high level viability. You also get a somewhat-short USB cable for charging.FWE 80 Lumen LED front light

FWE 80 Lumen LED Front Light in use

There are bike lights to be seen and there are bike lights to see by. The FWE 80 Lumen LED is definitely a light to bee seen. The 80 Lumen output is nice and bright and offers up good daylight visibility. I tend to use a lower output or flash mode when cycling during the day. However, a couple of occasions I was advised that the flash setting was too bright. Both occasions were from taxi drivers - clearly put off.FWE 80 Lumen LED front lightThe light is super compact and very commuter-friendly. Its size would also appeal to the club rider or race - looking for a lightweight light that doesn't ruin the aesthetics of a high-end bike. The mounting system is ok and probably the only real letdown. I found the rubber band a bit fiddly to connect around my 31.8 diameter handlebars. The light itself is designed to twist and lock into place. But it doesn't actually lock and I found it move out of position quite easily when riding (although it stayed connected to the mount). Charge time is a few hours from empty. There is a small light indicator which turns green when the light is on/has charge and red when the battery is running low (or charging).

FWE 80 Lumen LED Front Light Review Conclusion

This really is a smart little light for just about any cyclist. I am a big advocate of using bike lights all-year-round but understand that you don't always need a big bright light during the day. The FWE 80 Lumen front light ticks the boxes if you are looking for a small light to run during or you are wanting a simple, compact light for commuting. Just remember to take it off the bike and charge it from time to time. It's size can make it easy to forget. The bracket is a bit of a pain to get on with but once the light is connected - it doesn't affect the performance. At £16.99 RRP - Evans Cycles have produced a very good little light that gets a thumbs up from us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_message message_box_style="solid-icon" style="square" message_box_color="blue" icon_fontawesome="fa fa-shopping-cart"]Available From:FWE 80 Lumen LED Front Light - £16.99[/vc_message][/vc_column][/vc_row]
